The champions are known!

Another Lithuanian Open weekend is over and we can congratulate our new champions. On Friday evening the Dutch/Latvian combination Niels Das and Sandis Duks defeated home favorites Ugnius Jankunas and Laimis Zubavicius in the final of the blind draw pairs events.

Saturday in the Lithuanian Open we had another home favorite in the ladies final. Egle Galdikaite took the first leg but then saw number 1 seed Margaret Sutton from England starting to find the triples and doubles to be crowned Lithuanian Open 2022 champion. The men’s final was between number 1 seed Aaron Turner from England and number 7 seed Alexander Merkx from The Netherlands. Alexander was on fire and ran to a 4-0 lead before experiencing some double trouble in leg 5, which Aaron won with a 100 finish via 20-tops-tops. But in leg 6 Alexander found the double he needed to be crowned Lithuanian Open 2022 champion, his first ever WDF title!

Finally on Sunday the Kaunas Open was played. Margaret Sutton managed to reach the final again, this time her opponent was Latvia’s Kristine Mickus who defeated Lithuania’s Kornelija Lusaite in the semi finals. In a very close final Kristine Mickus took the deciding leg to win 4-3 and take the Kaunas Open 2022 title. After that the men’s final was played between number 2 seed John Scott from England and number 6 seed Dennis Nilsson from Sweden. Early on Dennis experienced some double trouble where John was deadly on his doubles and won the game 5-0 to take the title. John had a remarkable day because after losing a game in his group he did not lose a single leg anymore after the group stages.

All results and photo’s of the winners can now also be found on our page under the header 2022.

We would like to thank our sponsors for their support for the event and above all the players for making the weekend a success!

For 2023 we are planning to return to Kaunas, however the dates are not known yet. Keep an eye on this website and our Facebook page where we will announce the dates as soon as they are confirmed.
